MGM GRAND DETROIT

Eslick Design provided comprehensive planning and design for all exterior and interior signage for the MGM Grand Detroit. The design approach was the use of color contrast to simplify wayfinding solutions. The scale of the property was considerable and consisted of a 180,000-sf casino, an 800-room hotel and a 10,000-space parking garage. The garage was shared by MGM, and the City of Detroit whose offices at that time were directly across the street. The work was completed in 2007 and the signage is still in use today.

The exterior plan was to implement a directional sign system for the casino with an emphasis on keeping messages for the casino on white backgrounds while the hotel and garage were on black backgrounds. Because the scale and complexity of the site and facilities were going to be used by large volumes of both resort guests and city employees, we felt his process would help separate the information making wayfinding easier to digest by all types of users.
